Jurisdiction-aware AI is a legal AI system that reasons explicitly about which jurisdiction’s law applies to a question, rather than treating law as a single undifferentiated body of knowledge.

Law is not global. The same contractual clause can be enforceable in one country and void in another; the same regulator does not exist across borders; the same statute is amended on different dates in different places. A jurisdiction-aware system tracks the applicable law, court, regulator, effective date, document type and entity location, and makes each of those explicit in its answer.
Why it matters
A model trained predominantly on US and UK legal text will answer an Indian question with confident foreign reasoning unless the system constrains it. Jurisdiction-awareness is the difference between a legal research tool and a plausible-sounding hazard.

Why does jurisdiction matter for legal AI?
