A contract health score is a single composite rating, commonly on a 0–100 scale, summarising the overall risk position of a contract based on its clause-level analysis.

The score aggregates signals: missing clauses that should be present, clauses drafted one-sidedly, unusual terms relative to comparable agreements, and absent protections such as liability caps or IP assignment. Its value is triage — deciding which of forty incoming contracts need senior attention today — rather than substituting for reading the important ones.
Why it matters
Legal teams are volume-constrained, not judgment-constrained. A defensible score lets a team route the risky 10% to a senior reviewer and process the rest quickly, provided the score is explainable down to the specific clauses that produced it.

A vendor NDA scores 82 with two flagged issues: an unusually long confidentiality tail and no carve-out for independently developed information. A shareholder agreement scores 41 with nine flags, and goes to senior review.
